Synergy: Leveraging Self-Organization to Elevate Your Life

My Intention

For this 20th edition of The Distillation, my intention is to bring a deeper awareness of Synergy and how to apply it to your life.

For years, I’ve been unconsciously navigating letting go of control.

The past several months I’ve contemplated, “where in my life am I controlling?”

To even ask that question, was big growth for me.

Because I had stories that I wasn’t overly controlling.

When I look at my life, my relationships are approached with harmony.

So I told myself that I didn’t have other areas where I was controlling.

Yet, as I contemplated with sincere curiosity, I soon found my answer.

I began to notice when I had a “good idea” I wanted to explore, I’d immediately develop a plan and gain certainty on that path.

I was fearful of an uncertain trajectory, so I often strategized so I could feel more comfortable about moving forward.

This pattern would happen swiftly, automatically and without thought.

So as this clarity emerged, it made way for a simple, yet powerful concept.

I soon fell into a word that I was somewhat familiar, but I hadn’t heard it explained in this way.

That word was Synergy.

Synergy

For me, synergy was related with the idea of mixing some stuff together in harmony.

But I soon found a key within synergy that unlocked something meaningful to me.

I was exploring the Gene Keys and the way Richard Rudd explained synergy, something clicked for me.

That was: “self-organizing”.

It meant I didn't have to do all the work.

It meant that I was able to take a step back and steer my course with greater clarity and ease.

It meant I could navigate uncertainty with greater peace.

Here’s a working definition of Synergy:

To bring together self-organizing energies to collaborate, complement and co-create in a harmonious, empowered and strategic way.

This process involves leveraging diverse strengths and perspectives to produce outcomes that are greater than the sum of individual efforts.

This fosters an environment where collaboration enhances innovation, efficiency and effectiveness.

Where it really took off (for me), is when I applied this concept to archetypal energies (which we’ll dive into in another Distillation).

Okay, all that sounds cool, but how do we apply it to life?

Before getting into that, let’s discuss how synergy helps surrender control.

Surrendering Control

Little did I know, synergy was the mental nugget I needed to let go of control on a deeper level.

It gave me the peace of mind to allow other aspects of myself to operate intelligently.

It allowed me to trust myself, aspects of myself and Life itself more.

This surrendering gave me deeper state of peace.

The shift was allowing aspects of myself to simply be themselves and do what they do.

I soon noticed that synergy was everywhere, I’d just been blind to it.

Synergy is also a great concept to bring into leadership.

Because everyone knows how unhelpful a micro-manager is lol. Synergy alleviates that issue.

Surrendering control of the granular, allows you to zoom out and see the bigger picture.

That bigger picture brings clarity and the trajectory you decide to embark, becomes simple.

By aligning intentions and actions, synergy creates a dynamic interplay that maximizes potential and drives collective success.

Below, I’ll share 3 areas to understand this concept a bit more. Then we’ll finish with some action steps (like we always do).

The Body

There is a Hermetic Law of Correspondence which states, “As above, so below. As within, so without.”

Basically, it means that what is internal, is reflected in the external (and vice versa).

So let’s begin with the body (internal).

Understanding within yourself, makes way for easier implementation externally.

As you know, the body has many systems that run on their own.

Your digestion system.

Your nervous system.

Your respiratory system.

All these systems are self-organized and operate without you thinking about it.

Our bodies are the perfect example of many systems operating in synergy.

Often times, our minds can worry and experience thoughts that bring the harmony of our body out of sync.

Essentially, our mind is trying to do the job of the body. Which isn’t what the mind was designed to do.

By connecting with the body, we attune ourselves to effortlessly listen to and understand its needs.

The part of us that is worried gets out of the way and simply allows our body’s systems to operate in the best and most efficient way.

As a result, you receive more self-awareness, self-leadership and self-mastery.

This practical application lends itself to being able to express this concept of synergy in other areas of life.

Family Dynamic

Family relationships can be tough sometimes.

Grounding the concept of synergy into the family can lead to profound (positive) shifts.

As a Family Leader, empowering each person in your life to authentically express themselves can be one of the most powerful thing you can do.

By sincerely listening and communicating, you create the conditions for synergy to weave within the dynamic.

Just as you practiced listening to your body (internally), you reflect (externally) that same practice with your loved ones.

Eventually, the practice with one, will strengthen the other (and vice versa).

When we empower others in our family with synergy, we allow them to expand and self-organize within themselves with greater ease.

They are on the receiving end of synergy, and then that external behavior reflects inwardly for them.

Then they can more effortlessly practice synergy within their body (like you did).

As with anything, take this step-by-step, day-by-day.

The practice of synergy works best when complemented with what you know already works for your family.

Vocation

Another area we can bring synergy into, is our work.

In fact, it may be even easier to integrate in this area of your life.

That’s because the workplace has more defined structure and purpose.

A good company articulates a vision and mission for the leadership, team members and the customers they serve.

This clarity allows for individuals to innovate solutions because they know where the company is heading.

Micro-management can be a pain, so empowering people within your organization brings about higher productivity, creativity and deliverables.

Imagine you’re the leader of several people in your company.

How much easier would it be if they operated more intelligently, collaborated efficiently and self-organized their domain of mastery without you having to control it?

You could put more energy and focus on other areas that you simply haven’t had the time to do before.

You could also cultivate an environment where creativity, flow and expansion become second nature.

Note: Embracing humility and working on synergy within yourself first, will bring about better results.

Embody synergy, and then it’s expressed effortlessly as a byproduct.

Action Steps

Synergy is a deep topic lol.

It will take weeks and months for it to sink in. So give yourself time and space to allow synergy to digest within you.

Having said that, let’s dive into the action steps:

  1. Within the next 3 days, find some time (when it’s cool) to take a short walk.
  2. Contemplate this concept of synergy, and ask yourself how it shows up in your body and life.
  3. After your walk, jot down any ideas that feel important to capture.
  4. Return to this topic a few days later.

That’s it for this edition of The Distillation.

Wish you a great rest of your day!

With Joyful Sovereignty,

Lane
