# It Feels Good to Be Exactly Here

> There's a middle stretch where you chose everything on purpose and the momentum still hasn't fully arrived. That stretch can read as discouragement, and it can read as a crossing. You keep the goal and loosen your grip on the route, and at some point the separate pieces start turning each other.

I had a recent birthday and was doing some reflecting.

Looking at the past year and the different curiosities, creations and alive quests that moved through me.

It's beautiful to notice how different aspects of life have their own momentum, while others still need my energy to continue movement.

All of them have been designed intentionally though. Every one of those things was chosen the same way. What my body said yes to before my calendar did. That's the game design of a life, and it's a real practice: you architect the playgrounds, you choose what goes in them, then you live inside the thing you drew.

Which brings me to the part of the year I actually want to talk about.

There's a (sometimes long) middle where you're doing all of it right and the momentum still hasn't fully arrived. You chose well. You're energizing the thing with real time and real attention. And it's still only moving because you're moving it.

That stretch can read as discouraging. It can also read as something else entirely. You get to choose which one you're holding, and the choosing is most of the work.

You're crossing into a different way of running a life and a business. You haven't fully left the old way behind. The old way was never the enemy. It built the capacity you're spending right now. So it doesn't get thrown out. It gets carried across and folded in one level up, where it can be useful again in a different shape.

That's slower than dropping something. From the inside it can feel like drag.

Underneath, it's integration.

The thing that made the crossing enjoyable for me was a little thing called nonchalance.

You keep the goal. You keep the vision, the direction you're walking and the number you wrote down. What loosens is your grip on the path. You might turn left here. You might go straight through. You don't know which one it'll be, and either way it's beautiful. And either way it takes you where you're going.

Something shifts when you hold it that way. The pressure comes off the how. You come back into the present, which is the only place Life has ever happened. A kind of childlike curiosity shows up in place of the grip.

Well, let's see how this one goes.

It holds because there's structure underneath it. The calendar is architected. The systems are real. The direction is written down somewhere you can find it. Structure is what gives nonchalance a home.

Without it, you're floating.

With it you're flowing on something solid.

And then, on a morning you don't get to schedule, the parts stop being parts.

Not a list of separate components. A small orchestra, more in tune than it has ever been, and playing together rather than beside each other. It took years for those instruments to sound like that.

The rooms I built one at a time turned out to be a house. The loops I built separately started feeding each other. One movement.

That's what The Alive Business is. Eleven systems that look like eleven separate decisions and turn out to be one operating system, made out of whatever energy you were in while you built it. The energy in which you create is key. It gets woven into the thing itself.

So here's the one I'd offer you this morning.

Take a goal you already have. One you've been carrying with achievement energy, or accomplishment energy, or that quiet "I need this to work" underneath it.

The goal stays exactly as it is. What changes is how you're holding it.

Ask what that same goal would feel like held with Aliveness instead. Or held with a light hand and honest curiosity about the route. The awareness is the whole opening. Everything else comes through it.

If you'd rather start smaller than a goal, make one alive thing this week and watch what your body does with it.

I'm a dabbler. I've built a lot of different things, and my path took longer than it takes some people (perhaps lol).

The instruments are more in tune every day. Some of the (fly)wheels turn without me. The ones that still need my hands are getting my hands. That's a fine way to spend a year.

It feels good to be exactly here.

Lane

Enjoy the Journey
