There are two roads right now. One is loud. The other is almost invisible.
The loud one has a clear instruction: hand the creative work to AI, step back, let it produce. You can feel it everywhere. In the advice. In the tools. In the way the workflow is set up by default. Hand it over. Get out of the way. Watch the output come.
There's a second road. It's quieter. Fewer people are describing it clearly.
Something is already shifting in the culture around this. Feeds are filling up with interchangeable content. Audiences are getting a feel for it the way you get a feel for a copied signature. Not consciously. Just a vague sense of sameness.
Work that gets handed fully to the machine drifts toward an aggregate texture, a middle ground, a shape that feels like it could have come from anyone. The human part of the audience is quietly turning back toward what feels made by a man or woman. You can feel the turn happening even if you can't name a date for it.
Here's the best way I know to explain what's actually happening on the loud road.
Imagine you have an idea for a car that runs on something other than gas or diesel. Hydrogen, clean water, zero-point energy, some novel innovation of technology that already exists. The idea feels alive. It excites something in you.
Now imagine you go to AI and say: "build me a car." It hands you the existing paradigm of how cars are built. A blueprint. And you go, "okay, let's do that, I guess."
In that moment you're forfeiting to the aggregate average of the AI and what the models were trained on. The car worth building was never out there to retrieve. It was in you.
Send the creative direction fully over and it's going to look like every other model out there. Same curvature. Same feel. Same texture. A bland middle ground of an "innovative" car.
Sometimes that's exactly what you want.
But often you wanted something revolutionary and beautiful: old muscle style with a touch of something, a futuristic feel, a turn-of-the-century modernism. Something that someone would stop and look at.
The website version of this is just as real.
Ask AI to build your website and almost always what it's lacking is your unique fingerprint.
The subtle touches. The texture. The nuances. Your exact mix of uniqueness isn't out in the world to be found. It's assembled from bits and pieces dispersed across everything that ever inspired you.
Books. People. Examples you absorbed and made part of yourself. Those pieces combined into something that's authentically your fingerprint. The test is simple. Someone who knows you sees it and feels "that's really them." A stranger sees it and feels "I kind of get them. I feel them." That's the fingerprint. And it doesn't live anywhere AI can pull from. It lives in you.
So here's the inversion. The turn of the whole thing.
You don't go to AI for something AI can answer. You go to AI for something that can't be answered by asking AI.
Instead, AI can ask you.
It supports your inner orientation. Your authentic expression. The energy already running through you.

What I've noticed growing in myself through this way of working is something I didn't expect. A continuous, increasing identification as an artist. Not a content producer. An artist. Someone with uniqueness to share in whatever way feels good in the body.
All the art I love, the movies, the storytelling, the music, the museums, the fascination with a craft, all those things I identify in the external world that resonate with me are all pointing back to myself. My favorite directors and storytellers and musicians are a map. "What is that telling me about myself?" is the question underneath every preference. And the answer, when you sit with it, is always pointing toward something you haven't fully let out yet.
What becomes possible is embedding storytelling elements that are nearly invisible to almost everyone who'll read it. Doing it anyway because it's fun. Because you enjoy the process.
The work becomes less utility and more artistry. And yet the byproduct is almost always some beautiful utilitarian thing someone can take real knowledge or wisdom from. Everybody carries an artistic part that could be unbound, creatively expressed, prolifically put out into the world with the application of AI, if they relate with AI in a certain kind of way.

Remove the technology and tools for one hour. Just set them aside. Ask yourself: "what is the most alive thing I could move through right now?" Let the answer come. Let it get clear. Then, and only then, ask "what tool, what AI, could support this alive creation?" That order of operations. The alive thing first. The tool second. Never reversed.
That's the quieter road.
